Inflation analysis
Inflation in Norway
Norway's economy is shaped by oil and gas, which the country began producing in the 1970s. Petroleum revenues are channelled into the Government Pension Fund Global — the world's largest sovereign wealth fund — partly to insulate the domestic economy from the inflationary effects of a resource boom.
Norwegian inflation was high in the 1970s and 1980s, then settled after Norges Bank adopted a formal inflation target in 2001. The krone's exposure to oil prices remains a significant driver of imported inflation.
Norges Bank targets 2% inflation over time.
