Inflation in Sweden
Sweden's Riksbank, founded in 1668, is the oldest central bank in the world. Sweden adopted an inflation target in 1993, shortly after abandoning its currency peg during the 1992 crisis.
Swedish inflation was high through the 1970s and 1980s, a period of repeated devaluations of the krona. Since the mid-1990s it has been low and stable, and like the euro area Sweden spent much of the 2010s below target rather than above it.
The Riksbank targets 2% inflation, measured by the CPIF (CPI with a fixed interest rate).

- kr 100.00 in 1870 has the same purchasing power as kr 7,731 in 2026. That is cumulative inflation of 7,631.36% over 156 years, an average of 2.83% per year.
- What years does this Sweden inflation calculator cover?
- This calculator covers 157 years, from 1870 to 2026. You can convert an amount between any two years in that range.
- Can Swedish Krona inflation be negative?
- Yes. Negative inflation, or deflation, means prices fell and Swedish Krona gained purchasing power over that year. Sweden recorded deflation in 34 of the 156 years measured here, most recently in 2015. The steepest fall was -18.45% in 1921.
- What is the difference between CPI and the inflation rate?
- The consumer price index (CPI) is a level: it measures the cost of a fixed basket of goods and services in a given year. The inflation rate is the percentage change in that level between two periods. This calculator uses the ratio of CPI values for your two chosen years to convert an amount between them.
