The euro area's first two decades were remarkably stable, with inflation mostly between 1% and 3%, and the ECB spent much of the 2010s worrying about inflation being too low rather than too high. That reversed abruptly in 2022, when the energy shock following Russia's invasion of Ukraine pushed euro area inflation to 10.6% in October 2022 — the highest in the currency's history.
