Inflation in Israel

Israel's hyperinflation of the early 1980s is a standard case study in economics. Annual inflation accelerated through the decade and peaked at roughly 450% in 1984–85, with wages and prices indexed so thoroughly that the spiral became self-sustaining.

The Economic Stabilization Plan of July 1985 ended it decisively, combining a wage-price freeze, sharp fiscal tightening and a currency reform that removed three zeros. Inflation fell from triple digits to roughly 20% within a year, and Israel has had low, stable inflation since the late 1990s.

The Bank of Israel targets inflation within a 1–3% band.
